Frequently Asked Questions About Beam Cleaning and Beam Stripping
BEAM CLEANING QUESTIONS
Can I have beams blast cleaned in a listed building?
In principle yes, we have cleaned beams in many listed buildings and are happy to speak with listed buildings officers to outline our Micro Strip system and the results we can achieve.
Can you blast clean beams in the house we are living in?
Yes we can. Over the years we have developed a method of masking up rooms and cleaning up afterwards which allow us to blast clean beams in habited properties. The rooms should be as free as possible of furniture and curtains etc. This is a dusty process. Occasionally, especially in older properties dust can find the smallest cracks and emerge elsewhere so careful monitoring of other rooms is needed.
Can all kinds of wood be blasted?
Some softer woods, yellow pine for instance, do not stand up to even gentle blasting. However we have successfully blasted older pine. We always run a test patch for approval before going ahead.
Do you offer alternatives to sandblasting beams?
We have a variety of machines and techniques, dry ice blasting, DOFF steam machines as well as Micro Strip soda blasting and grit blasting machines. We will always recommend the one best suited to your project and the one which is fastest, achieve the best result for the lowest price.
OTHER BLASTING SERVICES FAQs
What areas do you cover?
From our base in Shropshire we cover the whole UK. We do not provide an off site service for classic cars as the lack level of control we have over the environment and weather makes this unviable. Older paint contains lead and we need to collect and dispose of this carefully, we can do so in our workshops.
Can you blast clean masonry and brickwork?
Usually, yes. It does depend on the coatings and the type of brick or stone. We will discuss this with you and always run a small test before proceeding.
How do I get a quotation from you?
Until we have been able to run a test we can only provide an estimate. That said we are normally well with the prices range given. Fastest way to get a decent idea of the cost is to send some photographs to together with the postcode and an outline of what you want us to do. We aim to provide an answer the same day.
Do you provide painting services?
Broadly speaking yes, both in the workshops and as a mobile service where we have blast cleaned metal which needs protection right after blast cleaning. Just let us know when sending an email with your project details.
Can you blast clean anything?
We have been asked to clean all kinds of items, from whole aircraft to jet engines, oak beams to mahogany panelling, cars to horse carts, water pumps to can sealing machines, new oak frames to 13th century doors. So just ask, We have a variety of machines and techniques, if we cannot provide a solution we might be able to point you elsewhere.
